slam poetry in the classroom

About Six years ago, wow, I was really into the Slam Movement but reality check happen and needed to find a career and life where I am happy. Turn out to very difficult life living to paycheck to paycheck. Not knowing if you hit big and that your poetry would actually entertain people or not. The politics, personalities, and general effect that was a focus in my life. Channeling the energy into other things like teaching and my life outside of teaching. But I think Slam Poetry is a great outlet for some people who need to raise other people's awareness about certain issues through the spoken word. How it has developed into an international thing, but never the memories or the experience that is what I am made up and don't deny its existence at all. Peace.

activity
I am looking in the eyes this cop who is trying to break from this strike
He wants me go away and leave the factory
This person does not understand the factors of what this entails
Majority of the time I'm working to keep my kids from taken from me
A lot of times I' striking to keep this 20.50 job for reason for pride,
the lost of the American Mill worker or the fact i have set a good shift to work
from, a lot of times I wondering I'm out the cold sharing down a weaseling cop who is all badge not nothing else.
I sit and wonder I'm out in the cold fighting the rundown system that the government has forgotten about and left the American worker behind.
With the managers, overly dealings the contracts and the tv stations making matters worse. The diversion between the blue and white collars and what does it matter.

What is the difference between editing and revising

Poetry understand between editing and revising is editing is surface but revising looking at the angle or point of view.
Revision

Hollywood is wonderful
Another cousins graduation
while I am watching the television
With Aunts and Uncles congruating
my annoying cousin with no direction in life

I thought to myself he should be the next Ryan Seacreast
must go away, and watching the news, another Michigan soilder
was killed

I go to the backyard hammocked between innoncence and arrogence
They were quoting Dr. Seuess books and typical things you say,
I thought to myself I never hated these books filled with old cliches and
saying.

Dear Friend

Dear Friend,
yo what is up, well, things have crazy for the past couple days, first workout for a while on Saturday, after going to bed at three in the morning. After I drove to Sweet waters to a doughnut and hot chocolate. Where after that I went home to watch college football games hoping Michigan would lose and they did, not sound so prideful and watch movies for the rest of the afternoon. I went Shamra King for dinner and went Cold Stone for desserts, with some people after that I just fall asleep.Proceded to church and did some homework after that. After while I watch Devils Playground and fell asleep again while listing to some music. The cold and wet Sunday was too much to stay awake for, see ya later

Letter to Professor : Josie's Indy Teach

Dear Professor,
This past weekend, I did a lot of exciting things. First,on Saturday morning I workout in the Rec center for about hour and half proceed to reward myself for a pumpkin cake doughnut and hot chocolate from Sweet Waters( No pug just mentioning) made my way home where I turned on the television to watch some college football , the Michigan and Wisconsin game was on, It was great. Than after the game I read some books for class thinking there will be a quiz on first part of the book. Later on, I watch some movies I got from Netflix. Proceeding the night,I took myself out for dinner and ice cream. I made it home around ten or so. Got early on Sunday to do some homework. The rest of the deary day of rain and gray clouds I tried to watch the Lions but loss to the Arizona Cardinals. In the late afternoon, I watch a documentary about the Amish's rite of passage of Rumspranga (the best spelling I can do here), where children at the age of Sixteen get to explore the outside world, where they call it the "Devil's Playground" I found really interesting and curious about they community, beliefs and practices, can be so separated. The rest of the night was just listening to some music while waiting for Monday morning to come around. Thank you for letting write to you and hope to see in the classroom.
Respectfully yours,
Robert L. Rice

Songs onto Poems

The eastern world, it is exploding
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’

But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say
Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today?
If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away
There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’
I’m sitting here just contemplatin’
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don’t pass legislation
And marches alone can’t bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin’
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it’s the same old place
The poundin’ of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dead, but don’t leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don’t forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don’t believe
We’re on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Group 4 Day Two, An Educational Find

I found something on the NCTE website, concerning teaching poetry in the classroom, A few quotes about how to teach poetry in the High School. This book was written by Albert B. Somers,(chapter Nine) where he wanted poetry in the classroom. Where he wanted the specfic to the generalized in an inductive way of writing. How poets make choices in making their decisions in picking a word or a sentence. Have them work on the poetic experience for about two weeks in class.
My thoughts on this, I used to like poetry and writing, but find it going back to a bad experience where feel it was not my thoughts on paper but trying to please an audience to win some poetry slam or seem my views were like everybody's else's. By writing in an inducitve manner are asking your students to something detail oreinted in the begining and wrote the general thoughts last instead at the start of the poem.

From Easter 1916, William Butler Yeats, Group 4 Poetry

From Easter 1916 by William Butler Yeats

A shadow of cloud on the strear
change minute by minute,
A horse hoof slides on the brain
And a horse plush within it
The long legged moor hens dive

My Poem
A horse is a shadow on the moor
The hens are change by minute
Slides plush within it the long legged
A horse brain on the moor in the dive
Along side the moor the hens cluck
in the rainy moor glen

The clouds open up to the minute and
minute by the trembling sky

The Moon

How the moon affects the tides, the moon affects by her longing to be with the Sun and how she must affects the how the tides in rage in pipelines off of Hawaii and calmness of the lakes of the Great Lakes. The moon has the control on how the tides affect with the emotional response of the her wanting to be with the Sun, the moon wanted to be with the Sun but the other planets did not want her to only taking up all the attention. So the Other planets made the moon a barren cold rock that floats around the Earth, controls the tides of that planet in order to see the Sun just briefly for that moment the tides on Earth are calm but they not together, there are great hurricanes and storms.

Nature, Forests Free Write

The light shining through the trees and magical surrounds the forest
It looks like a dark forest where nobody hikes through or does not do any thing that involve themselves in the picture. It looks very surreal and tranquil. The forest is all around the green moss on the trees where the little covers and the unproven path is covered with previous Fall leaves no body looks at the bright sunbeams reaching itself through the dark leaves. The it looks very warm and humid. With so many trees and no animals in sight. The forest looks empty and nothing to get from the sight.

Hollywood, must disappear

Ryan Seacrest must go away
How we must talk about American Idol
and the way we must continually about your so -called perfect life

He life is full of fluff and nothingness
Paris Hilton sightings
Nicole Richie suicide watches
Just taking in and breathing in air
That would save the rain forest or something

There is a barrage full of rags at the supermarket checkout counters
with fake tans, trendy foods, people driving drunk with your kids.
But we make them role models or try to at least
Botox is starting to stag off the face and try to be as
vacant as these people who greatest career highlight is punching
people in the face,

I just paid twelve dollars to see your last film, which by the way
was two hours too long and can not get back
so when i see you on the front cover of Whatever magazine
has you catch in a "moment" just pass on

About Me

Well, I have A lot to say about myself, first I am from the Detroit area, mostly from Birmingham,MI ( where I graduated a dozen years ago do the math.)and lived in Hamtramck,MI after I graduated from Oakland University http://www4.oakland.edu/ , in Communications where I felt I could not get a job after 9/11 because of the market. I moved to Hamtramck,MI thinking I could have wrote the next great American novel, that was a joke, where I met a really good writer Vivee Francis, she is a really great poet and taught myself about true calling as a Teacher not a writer. After Living in Hamtramck for a couple years of being disrepected by varoius roommates, friends etc.. I decided to play Rugby for a Detroit club http://www.detroitrugby.org/ , where I played for a couple years where I traveled to Great Britian for a month and half. After playing rugby and in an constent self esteem issue I moved out the Detroit area, where moved to Kalamazoo,MI to get my post-bach in Secondary Education, where someday I loved to teach in the Southwest of the country. I never felt better in my life, where have a place to go and people to rely me on.
